In the 2nd week of my comeback I was destroyed by Smokey. To think of all the times I have tried to help him and in return he leaves me for dust. I started with the nicest riders, Anne, Robbo, Bugs and Gavin who we may never see again (I assume Chang found him). We were going ok until some dick in a ute said hello. Robbo offered to beat him up for me but I told him it was ok. We went down some stupid hill and even Anne beat me and then we hit dirt and Anne slowed down. No Fear Scrubber and Chatalot flew past like no tomorrow, and I managed to catch them on the dirt with Al also joining the group. I was stupid and decided to stay with them although the pain was setting in. Al thought we smelt so tried to stay off the front. It turns out it was only me that smelt as he pulled the others away from me going out of Meadows. Stu went passed on the final climb and I followed him home. I saw Stu was stretching his back, I think he was trying to make me fell better but it didn't work as his back is worse than mine and he can still ride like a pro. Was fun and thanks to Robbo for the lift home.

| Robert Rau says: Glad everyone enjoyed the ride....didnt front up this time as too ashamed of my poor form lately due to a few strained muscles where it counts. Minister for War and Peace glad to have me home early (after Mega Bike Ride). Looking forward to the Coast 2 Coast (seems like most will be out watching the Clipsal - but if you decide to ride, see you out there somewhere).

| Martin Cook says: Shattered and forlorn are the words which come to mind after Saturday’s ride. I swear there was more than 900m of climbing and I swear I shall ride with the ‘sensible’ (otherwise known as B grade) group next week. Even the downhill section into Kangarilla felt like it was uphill. How can this be?? Stu rode very well and Chris rode even better in keeping up with him for most of the way. Chang pulled away going into Meadows after which I could never quite catch him. It was like some terrible nightmare....and then suddenly I was in the pub and everything was all OK again....until next week. Toon

| David Dawson says: Sarge, sorry about that but I was just trying to keep up with Al and it was a good job he didn't know the course otherwise he would have been long gone. It was vintage Al Muir when he went off the front after less than a kilometre on the way out of Clarendon and I thought "welcome back Al". I thought that we all worked pretty well together in pursuit of him and Chatalot was a big assist when we caught him on the fast run into Meadows. It was a bit hard getting Scrubber on to the front and I thought that he needed an Oscar in the Fucked Rider catergory, particularly when he pulled out to chase Al on the penultimate climb after not taking the front for the previous 15k's. I was cautious and slow on the descent of Dorset Vale and the dirt and had to work hard to get back to the bunch on the climb out but the remainder of the course was interesting and enjoyable. The cool weather made the portergaffs even more enjoyable .

| tony cheyne says: I obviously felt a little over confident at the start of the ride and partnered Stuey to the top of Cherry Gardens giving ChrisT and Toon a draft that might have been of more benefit to me. The climb out of Dorsetvale started OK but within half the climb I was running out of steam. Thankfully the gap back from Stuey to Chris, and then back to Toon was about the same for me, so I still had them in sight by the top. As they were unsure of the route I was still with them as we turned towards Echunga. But on the run into Echunga Stuey started to stretch his legs and quickly made a gap. Chris towed me a long for a couple of Km’s but the pace was too fast for Toon who dropped off the back. And by Echunga I had to let ChrisT go as well. I was stuffed! The roll towards Meadows perked me up a bit and I quickly passed Bugs, Robbo and then Anne. And just as I was settling into the ZONE (just maintaining the rythym) Robbo went flying past. I jumped on his wheel and together we started taking some time off ChrisT. But at Meadows I noticed that Stuey had become confused and slowed and then it was two against two again. But soon after Robbo started a coughing fit and I had to leave him behind and rolled on towards Kangarilla. I noticed Toon was not too far behind but he did not appear to be closing. He was though, and as I made the last climb up through Clarendon he caught me. It was tough on the legs and I wouldn’t blame anyone for complaining. It appeared Woody turned right on the fall into Dorset vale and had to climb out up to Potters Road (the ridge road overlooking Clarendon) on a muddy and dirt road, a climb twice what we did going the opposite way. It took him some time, but he’ll be back.
